Canada Express Entry is an online system introduced by the Government of Canada to manage applications for permanent residency under three federal economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): This program is for skilled workers with work experience in a high-demand occupation. Applicants are assessed based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): This program is for skilled tradespersons with work experience in a specific trade occupation. Applicants are assessed based on factors such as work experience, language proficiency, job offer or certificate of qualification, and other criteria.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): This program is for individuals who have obtained skilled work experience in Canada and wish to transition to permanent residency. Applicants must have at least one year of work experience in Canada, meet language requirements, and meet other eligibility criteria.
Here’s how the Express Entry system works:
- Create an Online Profile: Applicants interested in any of the above programs must create an online profile in the Express Entry system. The profile includes information about education, work experience, language proficiency, and other relevant details.
- Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS): The Express Entry system ranks candidates based on the Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS assigns points to each candidate based on factors such as age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and other additional factors like a job offer or provincial nomination.
- Invitation to Apply (ITA): Regular draws are conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to select candidates with the highest CRS scores. Those who receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) can then submit a complete application for permanent residency within a specified timeframe.
- Permanent Residency Application: Once an ITA is received, applicants must submit a complete application for permanent residency, including supporting documents and fees. The application is assessed based on the specific requirements of the chosen immigration program.
- Final Decision: The IRCC evaluates the application, conducts background checks, and verifies the provided information. If approved, applicants will receive Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and can proceed with the process of becoming a permanent resident of Canada.
It’s important to note that meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an ITA. The CRS scores of candidates invited in each draw vary depending on the overall competition and the number of available spots.
The Express Entry system has streamlined the process for economic immigration to Canada and allows for faster processing times compared to some other immigration programs. It’s recommended to refer to the official website of IRCC for detailed and up-to-date information on Express Entry and its specific requirements.
